A WOMAN who has supported the town for several decades has been named as Callington’s Citizen of the Year.

Lena Richards has been involved in the long-term running of various groups such as the Girl Guides and the Scrabble Club at the Methodist Church.

Town clerk Helen Dowdall said she herself had been in the Brownies as a child and remembers ‘Mrs Richards’ being her Brownie leader.

’Lena is an unsung hero of Callington who has given so much to groups, not just recently, but over the last 30 years,’ said Helen.

‘Some of us who have now got our own children remember her helping out with things when we were children ourselves.

‘She gets on behind the scenes to help people without any fuss, and so we thought it was time we recognised her and said thank you.’
