A dream voluntary job for nature lovers is being offered with camping thrown in – but you’ll need to be made of stern stuff!

Looe Island is looking for a couple, or two good friends, to live on the island and assist the wardens over the summer season.

The job will include helping out with boat trips and managing visitors, providing cover for the warden on their days off, and helping to look after the flock of sheep that live on the island.

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust, which runs the nature reserve, says that it’s vital the two people who get the job can get on while working closely together and living in a bell tent.

“Looe Island is one of our key nature reserves, and is carefully managed by  residential wardens who live on the island,” says the Trust.

“We are looking for a couple or two good friends who can commit to living and work closely together on the island for four months.”

Ideal candidates will be people who are enthusiastic about wildlife and protecting wild places, and confident in communicating about this to the public.

Practical skills will be useful, as well as the ability to carry out some physically demanding tasks – and it’s essential that the volunteers are willing to live in a simple, isolated location without access to all the modern conveniences found on the mainland.

The closing date is April 7 and anyone who wants to find out more should head to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust website.
