school clubs

AFTER school clubs have always been very popular at Gunnislake Primary School and last week when an after school netball club started it was well attended by enthusiastic, energetic children.

The club is run by Jane Chapman, who is also the school cook and a keen netball player.

There is now a club running every afternoon - activities include art and craft, drama, music and sport.

Also new to the school last week was a tuck shop offering healthy snacks at break time. The shop is run by Alyson Wakem and Sue Warren who are helped by children in years five and six.

Family service

at St Mary's

THE Family service on Sunday May 6 at St Mary's Church, Callington had a horticultural theme to it with the Rector, Revd Robert Oakes, telling how a person's faith can grow like the mustard seeds he had distributed around the congregation and he used laurel cuttings to illustrate his talk.

Jessica March read the parable of the Mustard Seed. On display during the service was a Banana Plant, complete with one unattached banana. The Rector said that the church family must put its faith into action for the Going Bananas Holiday Club at the end of August, which is being run by St Mary's for the primary school children of Callington and the surrounding districts.

Teifi and Rebeka Warner, Beth Julian and Beth Teverson read the prayers. The Revd Penny Raynham distributed the birthday pens and the Sunday School children sang 'If I were a butterfly'.
