THE point-to-point season came to an abrupt end at Buckfastleigh in March as the coronavirus pandemic took hold.
In lieu of the sport’s curtailment, Westcountry Videos, who film at all West Country point-to-point meetings, have put together a unique DVD of point-to-point and National Hunt racing from the 1930s to the 1990s.
The unique footage recalls the early days of point-to-points held over banks and rare film of Lonesome Boy, who won 53 successive races in the West Country.
Also featured are: Point-to-Points from the 1950s – Minehead Harriers, Eggesford, Spooners, Hatherleigh Harriers etc;
Courses including Nedge, Didmarton, Tweseldown, Holnicote, Bratton Down, Shobrooke, Kilworthy, Venford etc;
Buckfastleigh point-to-points in the 1960s and 1990s;
1950s National Hunt racing from Newton Abbot, Devon & Exeter, and Buckfastleigh;
Some commentaries by the late Peter Wakeham
