WITH all other matches on Wednesday night falling foul of the torrential rain, Liskeard Athletic somehow managed to stage their encounter with Buckland Athletic at a saturated Lux Park.
The teams sensibly condensed the half-time break to just five minutes – and home fans were glad the game was finished as the Blues came from two-down to score three times in the final ten minutes and win 3-2.
This was Buckland's final game in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League and, although only pride was at stake, they were given a testing time in the first half as Liskeard played down the slope.
However, the Toolstation Western League-bound Bucks established a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Dean Stevens and Liam Drew either side of half-time.
Liskeard hit back with just ten minutes remaining when, following a period of sustained pressure, Demitri Kanakh headed home James Donnellon's pin-point left-wing cross.
Three minutes later, Joe Carey supplied a cool finish from 12 yards to restore parity – and it was Kanakh who fired the hosts' winner with virtually the last kick of the contest.
