Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League (Division Two East)
Holsworthy (108 all out)
Callington 2 (265-3)
HALF centuries from Liam Hunn and Peter Tancock sent Callington seconds on their way to a convincing victory at Holsworthy.
The hosts were in the game as Matt Shepherd trapped Toby May lbw for 14 and bowled fellow opener Ryan Brown for 16.
From there on, Hunn, who looked to hit straight, and the classy Tancock took the game away from the Trees, who didn’t help themselves by missing four chances throughout.
Tancock had struck 14 fours and two sixes when he was bowled by the returning Shepherd (3-67) for 87.
Hunn (79no) and Chris Simpson (27no) then made hay in the final few overs as they ended on 265-3.
Callington opened the bowling with Martin Hunn (2-38) and Alex Mortimore, and they got in the act early, as both Jack May (0) and Aiden Gerry (7) were trapped lbw.
Sam Stacey attacked and made 27 before he somehow struck a full toss from Martin Hunn down mid-on’s throat.
Once Shepherd was bowled by Mortimore (3-34) for eight, it became the Richard Brown show as the spinner tore through them to take 4-12 off 6.1 overs.
Only Ryan Walter, who was ninth out for 28, and Rob Mitchell (12) made double figures as the Devon club were all out for 108 in 27.1 overs.
Home skipper Ryan Walter expects a big improvement at Tideford on Saturday.
He said: “They outplayed us in all three departments and we were nowhere near good enough to compete with them on the day. We were a bit flat throughout and our fielding let us down.
We just need to make sure we dust ourselves down for Saturday.
“It’s an important game for us to get back on track after a disappointing performance.”
