THE 2024 North Devon Show is nearly upon us, with the event taking place at its usual location at Barton Farm, Umberleigh on Wednesday, August 7.

The show celebrates the region's rural, agricultural and equestrian heritage, with this year's show also featuring additional entertainment and activities, all geared at making it a special day out for families.

Show secretary Theresa Soanes said: "We're counting down the days and all looking forward to a great show day. It has fabulous support from the North Devon public and a number of visiting tourists enjoy the event too.

“This year we are making it as family friendly as possible, with a great entertainment programme laid on to accompany all the traditional events."

The entertainment includes fairground rides, Laser Clay pigeon shooting, vintage cars and tractors and a full line up of display activities including the renowned falconer and horse-trainer Jonathan Marshall with his Free Spirits Show.

Also featuring this year is a live music stage with a host of acts to keep people entertained throughout the day.

Many are looking forward to the return of the giant tortoises too! This year there is a special educational trail for children where they can complete a fun questionnaire relating to the animals and other show exhibits.

Looking ahead, Ms Soanes added: "Last year was challenging for everyone, but that was due to some freak weather, the likes of which we haven't seen in early August for many a year. Hopefully all will be back to normal this season and people can enjoy all the outdoor activities at their best.

“We are looking forward to seeing regular members of our farming and equestrian community who have supported the show for many years, plus new entrants as well. It will also be great to see families, locals and tourists alike, who can see our rural heritage close up and enjoy all the entertainment we have laid on. It really is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to get together and enjoy a fabulous day out."
