Pensilva Youth U-15s travelled to Bere Alston in DJM U-15 Defiance with only nine players available but still managed to come out on top, winning a high scoring game 5-3.

Having feared the worst Pensilva took to the field, ready to try their best and see what they could do. But they did even better than that, having missed two similar chances previously Mike Ruark opened the scoring in the early stages Pensilva's shock lead was then doubles when Mike Ruark scored his second.

Realising their potential Pensilva started playing some good football and it paid dividends when Ruark completed an impressive first half hat-trick. Straight from the break though Pensilva were pulled down from cloud nine, when Bere Alston marched up the field and scored.

Pensilva came out from the half-time break knowing that it would be a tough half, but things were easier than expected when Ruark scored yet again taking his and Pensilvas tally to four.

Bere Alston then pulled one back, but the Bere Alston comeback was soon halted when Ruark again broke free, probably bored of slotting it past the keeper he calmly lobbed it over his head in what was the goal of the match.

The score eventually finished 5-3 in Pensilva's favour. The players who did themselves proud were then rewarded with a Mars Bar (or two!!).

This DJM Astor 13 League clash between two evenly placed sides produced a good display of football, as both teams endeavoured to win the much needed three points.

In under a minute Ashes took the lead with a fine cross from Martin Burt that was slotted in by Ashley Bailey. Ashes continued to pressurise Mayflower throughout the remainder of the first half.

New signing Andrew Elliot produced some good work up front for Saltash and was unlucky not to score on his debut. Lee Jackets was also unfortunate when his excellent corner bounced on top of the opponents crossbar.

The second half saw the roles reversed with Mayflower attacking strongly chasing the equaliser. They were unlucky not to score with the crossbar keeping out a couple of efforts and the side netting receiving more than it's fair share of attention. The final whistle saw the home side take the honours 1-0 and very valuable three points in what has been a lean season so far. Man of the Match was Brian Clements.

This DJM U-12 Hood game produced an outstanding display from the Saltash youngsters who went into this game against Woodford Colts with only an outside chance against of a result.

Battling throughout they matched Colts in all aspects of the game and were unfortunate to find themselves behind with just a minute to go.

Todd Croft grabbed the point for Ashes in the dying seconds adding to the goals scored earlier by Jordan May and Christian Macintosh. The final score being 3-3.

Pensilva's final DJM U-16 Rodney home game of the season resulted in a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Stoke Climsland. From the outset the 'Pens' applied heavy and sustained pressure on the visitors goal but were thwarted on numerous occasions by a fine display from the Stoke keeper.

It was during this opening spell that the home side displayed an aerial dominance, with Joel Key desperately unlucky when two goal-bound headers were cleared off the line.

With only 10 minutes of the half remaining Pensilva broke the deadlock when Anthony Chapman fired home from close range. This was followed five minutes later with the goal of the match by 'Spud' Pocock. He latched on to a poor clearance 30 yards from the Stoke goal and unleashed a fierce curling strike that flew into the top corner of the net.

With the Pens leading 2-0 at the break, the points were sealed when they scored twice within two minutes of the restart, both goals coming from Phil Lucas.

Pensilva continued to dominate the play and Key netted a fifth before Lucas completed his hat-trick to add goal number six. Just when it seemed that the home side would keep their first clean sheet of the season, the visitors scored a consolation goal in the final minute.

This was a confident all round team display by Pensilva, but a special mention must go to Anthony Chapman who played his final game for the Pens and was deservedly named the opposition manager's man of the match.
