Stoke Climsland's soccer stars from the past gathered at a reunion recently to celebrate the village football club's heyday – 1945 - 1975.

Over 100 former players came from as far as the tip of Cornwall, Somerset and Surrey to attend the event at Stoke Climsland Social Club. The reunion, which was first talked about last summer, was organised by Larry White from Saltash and Roy Sandover and Ivor Evely from Stoke Climsland, who all played for the club during this era.

Those attending this first ever reunion of the club included two of the oldest surviving ex-players - Ed Wills and Tom Werring from the post Second World War team.

Stoke Climsland Football Club was formed in 1922 by Canon Andrews and in th 'golden years' of the 60s and 70s the team won every trophy in the local district leagues. The only trophy the lads failed to clinch was the Cornwall Junior Cup.

The team won the Plymouth Combination League Challenge Bowl four years running in the 1960s – a record which they still hold.
