SALTASH United were always in charge of this midweek Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division encounter at Kimberley Stadium against a naive Ivybridge Town side.

Ivybridge gave their hosts a fifth-minute wake-up-call when a 20-yard Ryan McClement strike took a deflection, forcing a fine save at the foot of his post, by keeper Paul Hider.

The Ashes' marking from the subsequent corner left a lot to be desired as Josh Zimmerman found himself free to touch the ball past Hider.

Parity was restored on 13 minutes. Gavin Coulton's run took him to the bye-line and a great cross to the far post was headed into an empty net by the arriving Danny Zalick.

Ashes were gifted the lead when a clumsy challenge on Ross Saint gave the midfielder the chance to convert a 26th-minute penalty.
