A SPECIALIST vehicle recovery firm had to cut off the roof of a van in a town centre courtyard after it became trapped. Crowds gathered to watch the action at Magnolia Court on Baytree Hill, Liskeard, on Saturday, as Keltek Motors from Callington, considered a number of options before finally deciding to cut the roof off the damaged vehicle. Scrape marks on the ceiling of the archway into the courtyard were evidence of the tight squeeze there had been when the van had entered. Simon Deacon, proprietor of Keltek Motors, said: 'We tried our best to come up with a solution to get the van out in a way as to cause as little damage as possible. We measured the height of the van and, even with the suspension right down on the axles and the tyres flat, the van was still ten inches too high. We were left with no alternative but to take the top of the van off and take it out that way. We get a few jobs like this but this definitely ranks as one of the strangest jobs we have been to.' A spokesperson for Ryder said: 'We can confirm that a rental vehicle was involved in an incident in Liskeard on Saturday.'
