A GROUP campaigning for safety improvements on the A38 in South East Cornwall has made a short film urging drivers to remember ’social distancing’ when behind the wheel.
Members of the Safe38 committee made the video to get an important message across in a clear but lighthearted way.
They say that after nearly 12 weeks in lockdown, the roads around the district have now become busy again.
James Millidge, chair of the campaign group said: ’The video of the committee in a Zoom meeting is hopefully a bit of fun, and encourages the road safety messages we should all know but may have forgotten while we’ve been in lockdown and not driving our cars so much.
’We need to keep our distance from the car in front - in our case we’re calling it socially distancing. Maintaining those two seconds between cars is crucial in giving drivers enough time to react.
’As the roads have been quite empty, we also need to remind drivers that driving within the speed limit is not optional. It’s those little errors that occur on familiar roads which can have massive consequences.
’At this time of the Coronavirus pandemic we are urging everyone to think about all those situations where we need to keep ourselves and our families safe and that includes out in their cars, wherever it is we’re going.’
The video can be found on the Safe38 Facebook page.
