A well-known and much-loved milkman who has been ’doing the rounds’ in South East Cornwall for more than three decades will be retiring soon.

Chris Davis has done much more than deliver the milk and newspapers over the years: he has become a trusted friend of many along the way, lending a hand when he sees it’s needed. He has even helped save lives, and was presented with a Local Hero award for his dedication and care.

Now, Chris has written to his customers to say he’ll be stepping down from the milk round to spend more time with his family.

Look out for more on Chris in a forthcoming Cornish Times - and in the meantime, we’ve printed part of his letter.

Many of you from Liskeard and the surrounding areas will have seen me busily running about in all weathers over the years, and a large number of you will also have been customers over the more then 30 years I’ve been doing this job. It has come to the time that I’ve decided to retire from the job I love.

Just over a year ago I had a very serious accident and was lucky to be able to return to work after a short period of recovery. This has given me some perspective on life and I feel it’s now the right time to step down and pursue some other avenues.

I have delivered to many of you for a long period of time and even to some for the whole duration of my time serving the community in and around Liskeard! You’ve been alongside me for many aspects of my life, from seeing my children grow while helping me on the round, to hearing stories of them forging careers and going on to have children of their own. It is for this reason that at 67 years old I have decided to sell the business, allowing me to spend more quality time with my family.

Despite my decision to step down as your local milkman the business will continue, being run by my friend JJ Moss and his partner Eve.

Many of you have become both loyal customers and trusted friends over the many happy years I have been delivering to you and I hope to continue to see you while I’m out and about enjoying retirement.

Thankyou and best wishes to you all,

Chris Davis
