HOW does it feel to be eight or nine years old, at home in Cornwall during lockdown?
Pupils in Landrake have been responding creatively to this question as they complete their schoolwork away from school.
Year 4 teacher at Sir Robert Geffery’s School, Richard Arundell, said: ‘My class have been really engaged with our online learning over the past few weeks.
‘I asked the children to create their own ‘Lockdown’ poems to reflect how they are feeling at this incredible moment in their lives. The results were great.’
We’ve published a selection of the poetry here for readers to enjoy.
Have your pupils produced some interesting work at home? We’d like to hear from you – get in touch at [email protected]
Here are a few of the Landrake Class Four poems - we’ll be publishing more over the next couple of days!
I MISS my school friends oh so much, but I found a new way to stay in touch.
A Scavenger Hunt on video call. It is very different but oh so cool.
We are very lucky, there has been lots of sun. We built a treehouse, it’s been so much fun.
We go on a walk every morning, and see lots of things when we go exploring.
When the coronavirus has gone away, I can’t wait to invite my friends to stay,
ALFIE (aged 8)
Coronavirus is so bad, but at night the stars don’t seem so sad.
They watch us laughing, dancing, singing. Staying together for our well being.
I miss my friends but they don’t seem far with my brand new pens no need for a car.
In the field I watched the lamb play, but in my heart I know I must stay.
When it is over I want to surf at the beach, eating chocolate ice cream while it drips at my feet.

A VIRUS is amongst us. Never stand too close.
Do not touch your face. We have slowed down our pace.
Not too sure we will ever get back on the case. We are missing our friends and families, but staying away keeps them safe.
Mum has turned crafty; Dad has gone daftie.
They are doing everything to keep us busy, last week was sourdough, this week is scarecrows.
Willow has become our saving grace, she makes mess all around the place.
Finley and I have become bored. We understand that we need to wait for this virus to be floored.

This coronavirus has got me missing my family and friends.
When is this Lockdown going to end?
Can’t go anywhere fun, but I’m lucky to have a garden to enjoy the sun.
I guess it’s not all that bad, although my sisters drive me mad!
We like to play games and go on the swing. Act a bit silly and dance and sing.
I can’t wait for this to be done, it will be great. We will have a party to celebrate.
My friends and family who I really miss, I will give them a big hug and kiss.
But the people we all should be thinking about, are the brave NHS, let’s give them a clap and shout!
LACEY (9)
We’re staying at home all alone watching telly, and making lots of food to go in my belly.
There are not many cars on the road, which gives us time to admire nature in the hedgerows.
Chatting to lots of friends on the web, keeping in touch but still staying in bed,
Having time to make a den, until we’re allowed out again.
Keeping ourselves busy, trying not to let our hair go frizzy,
Can’t wait to get back to school, and go shopping in the mall,
Keeping a safe distance – to allow our existence, three weeks to go, but going out is a no!
I hate you corona… you’re making everyone a moaner!

Lockdown, well what can I say, powering through day by day.
Outside my window is bright blue sky. I look up to the clouds so high.
I wish I could go out to play, but for now at home I have to stay.
Right now the world is battling on, but the NHS is staying strong.
I couldn’t thank them any more, and the key workers we adore.
At least lockdown won’t last for long. We have to keep happy and strong.
I hope in years when I look back, I will always remember that,
How all the world united together, and that I will remember forever.

I AM a boy named Joshua in Lockdown, I come from Landrake Downtown.
I am being schooled at home by my dad. He is trying hard, he is not that bad.
I miss my friends lots, but we stay in touch on xbox.
We play a lot of minecraft, run around and act daft.
Hopefully this will soon be done, so I can see my friends and have fun.
For now we stay at home to save the NHS; good luck to them and God bless.

This lockdown is not that bad, there is no point in being sad.
Some days can be less fun, but at least we get to go for a run.
The sun is shining, which is better than rain, but not being able to play with our friends is a bit of a pain.
Let’s stay positive and keep safe and well, we must carry on using hand sanitiser gel.
The key workers should feel very proud, and we all shout THANK YOU very loud.
