PEOPLE who have, or have had, any connection with Liskeard School are being sought as preparations gather pace for a major celebration.

The school will be marking a significant milestone later in the year.

Bob Hollingdale, who is involved in the planning of the special events, said: ‘This September will realise a milestone in the life and history of Liskeard School when it will have been in existence for 40 years.

‘In September 1978, the amalgamation of the Liskeard Grammar and Secondary Modern Schools saw the birth of Liskeard (Comprehensive) School, later to be called Liskeard School and Community College.

‘Since then many thousands of young people have passed through its doors, many saying they were the best days of their lives and some not being so sure!

‘Now, nearly four decades on, arrangements are being made to ensure the school and all those connected with it, both past and present, celebrate its 40th birthday in September in an appropriate and entertaining manner

‘Friday-Sunday, September 21-23, are the special dates which have been set aside for celebrations which the whole community can enjoy.

‘A community day at the school, an exhibition of memorabilia, an evening concert featuring past and present students and staff, a reunion tea for former students and teachers together with ad hoc informal gatherings and an evening get-together for those who have worked, or are working, at the school – all are in the planning stage.

‘In order for this anniversary celebration to be a success, the planning group needs to contact as many as possible of those who have, or have had, any connection with Liskeard School.

‘Anyone who can help with this, or would like more details, is invited to contact me, either by emailing [email protected] or calling 07760 781087.’
