Cornwall Council has commissioned urban design and landscape architecture specialists LHC to carry out a development study into potential future uses for the Liskeard Cattle Market site.

Currently leased by Kivells, the cattle market is a key area in the heart of Liskeard.

Discussions have been held between interested parties, including Cornwall Council, Liskeard Town Council and Kivells, to identify a long-term and sustainable future for the site in the event that it becomes available in the future. The development study is part of this ongoing process, says the council.

The study will explore potential options for the use of the cattle market, the adjoining car park, and other nearby buildings.

This could include things like shops, workspaces, homes, local community uses and parking.  Development options will be considered in the context of the town centre as a whole and against the market demand for the facilities being proposed.  Local people will have the chance to share their views as part of a public consultation about the site in July.

Sally Hawken, Chair of the Liskeard Cattle Market Working Group and Cornwall Councillor for Liskeard East, said: ’We want to see this prime location revitalised in an imaginative way so that it continues to draw locals and visitors into the town centre. Nothing has been ruled in or out, and we’ll be asking local people and businesses for their views on the best option for the site as part of the coming public consultation.’
