LOCKDOWN boredom and clippers can be a disastrous combination.. but a Cornish charity wants people attempting DIY haircuts to ’Spend on Care not Hair’
Like many charities, Cornwall Hospice Care is suffering as a result of its shops across the county having to shut.
But with many people stuck at home unable to get to the barber or hairdresser deciding to take matters into their own hands, the charity has come up with a fundraising opportunity.
’We’re setting people a very unique challenge while they’re in isolation and spending time at home,’ said Oli Hoare, head of Fundraising at Cornwall Hospice Care.
’As everyone is unable to make it to the hairdresser or barber, we’re encouraging you to have a go at cutting your own hair, or to ask someone in your household do it for you! Whether you’re trying something completely new or just going for a tame trim, take on our Spend On Care Not Hair challenge! You can also take part if you’re choosing not to touch your hair, beard or moustache for the whole lock down period.’
The charity, which provides care for terminally ill patients and their families, is then asking those who take part to donate what they would normally spend on a regular haircut – or ask friends and family to sponsor them - to help support their vital work.
Oli himself has set the ball rolling and has raised £440 so far with a dramatic new look!
Cornwall Hospice Care is asking everyone to share photos of their new fringes, perms, Mohawks, bobs, masterpieces or ’disasterpieces’ on the charity’s Facebook page.
And it has produced a helpful guide to styles, whether you’re letting your hair grow out, or going for a drastic new cut at home.
