Residents, the Mayor and Councillors came together last weekend to clean up Culverland Park in Liskeard.
Local Cornwall Councillor Nick Craker organised the event on Saturday which saw around 15 residents and town councillors turn out to help litter pick, clear away fly tipping, clear footpaths, sweep up leaves and clear blocked drains.
Utilising CORMAC’s volunteer tool trailer and with support from Biffa, around six large dumpy bags of waste was removed from Culverland Park.
Unfortunately, there has been a spate of fly tipping, littering and overgrowing vegetation and the community wanted to show that people do care about where they live and to clean up Culverland.
Cllr Craker said: “Residents were telling me they wanted to see Culverland Park looking more clean and tidy; by involving the residents who live here it is a great way of demonstrating that the community spirit is alive and well in Liskeard.
“I would like to thank all the residents who came out to help on Saturday, plus the Mayor, Simon Cassidy, and Councillros Jane Pascoe, David Ambler, Rob Frost and Kerry Cassidy for supporting the event and getting involved.”
Mayor of Liskeard Cllr Simon Cassidy said: “It was great to see residents of all ages, including children, coming out to look after their community; we were even served tea and coffee by the residents to keep us going. There is a huge amount of community spirit in Liskeard. Our residents are such a huge asset to our town.”
Following the event, a number of locals expressed an interest in organising further action days at Culverland Park and continue to keep their neighbourhood clean and tidy.
