Liskeard Athletic Football Club has been hit by an act of vandalism and a theft at its Lux Park ground – for the second time in three months.

Damage was caused on Monday evening to fencing which separates the cricket and football pitches, a glass window in the top part of the door leading to a tea hut was smashed, and the club’s supply of cold drinks was taken, along with a kit bag.

Club chairman Roger Williams told the Cornish Times: ‘It is very upsetting, particularly for everyone at the club who work so hard, on a voluntary basis, to keep a football club going in Liskeard.

‘Two months ago the dressing rooms were broken into and items stolen. Now the tea room. It’s soul destroying really.’

Phil Hiscox, secretary of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League, of which Liskeard Athletic is a founder member, said: ‘The worst part isn’t the pop drinks or broken glass, it’s the negative impact on the very people who are trying to do a positive thing for their community.’
