MY name is Patrick Logan and I am 54 year old. I have had both hips replaced and I have arthritis at the bottom of my spine. Since I moved with my family from the Midlands to the West Country work has been very hard to find. I used to attend the Job Centre in Saltash. Unfortunately, it now only opens three days a week and I have been re-directed to Liskeard Job Centre. This job centre does not send for me on a regular basis. I am now really beginning to wonder whether the government, who do not class me as disabled - but companies do - want me to get a job. I recently worked in Plympton alongside another man, who started at the same time as me, as a production technician for eight months. After this time, we were both interviewed for our jobs. I was not successful and not, in my opinion, given a reasonable explanation why not. I was told I did not have the relevant experience. The reason I am so upset, is because I am not classed as disabled but when firms find out my medical history, I am dismissed. I want to work - what do I do? Can any readers give me some ideas?
