A GRANDMOTHER is walking from Land’s End to John O Groats in Scotland to raise money for charity.
Kim Gilbert (pictured right) from Rilla Mill, a retired nurse, mother of five and grandmother of 11 is currently on day 33 of her journey.
Kim started her journey at the beginning of April from Land’s End, she plans to walk to John o’ Groats which lies 874 miles away by road.
Kim was inspired to complete the challenge by a woman who she met out walking and was completing the same trip. Kim already being an avid walker decided that she could do something similar and at the same time raise money for charity.
Kim has planned her journey all the way up to Bristol, keeping off roads and sticking to trails and paths. Lots of people have joined Kim along the way, family and friends joining her for specific stretches for the route, from a few days to a couple of weeks, even including her 11-year-old granddaughter.
Kim said: “I am used to walking, so it’s easier for me. All you need is a really good pair of boots”
So far, Kim has raised £2,995 for Tearfund, a Christian charity. She plans to finish on July 1 completing her target of raising £5,000 in total.
