Job applications have been flooding into HMS Raleigh at Torpoint after it was announced that up to 20 new civilian jobs are being created at the naval training base.
"We have been inundated with over 300 replies in less than a week," said Richard Greaves, the general manager of Flagship Training, the private company which provides staff to support the naval personnel who train recruits at the base.
The new jobs are being created thanks to the relocation of the Royal Navy Submarine School from Gosport in Hampshire to Torpoint.
More than 200 naval personnel currently at Gosport will be coming to work at HMS Raleigh early next year and the additional civilian employees are needed to provide a range of support services.
Among the new jobs are those for a technical author, a typist, a receptionist, a travel co-ordinator, a database administrator and training planners.
Mr Greaves said: "The closing date for applicants is November 18 and interviews will take place in December. The majority of the successful applicants will start work at the end of January.
"The submarine school will be partially opening in April and is expected to be open 100 percent by the end of next year."
Flagship Training already has 80 employees at the base including administrators, stores personnel, typists and catering staff.
