Honour for First World War veteran

Legionnaires from all over the country gathered at the Looe Bay Holiday Park at the weekend to attend the British Legion's ' annual 'We'll Meet Again' event.

The highlight of the weekend was the presentation of the Legion d'Honneur to Mr Arthur Sidney Reynolds of 5, Beacon Park, Pelynt.

He has been awarded the honour by the French government for his active service in France during the First World War.

Mr Reynolds, who will be 100 in September this year, served as a marksman with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He joined the army as an 18-year-old, serving in the trenches in France, and when the Armistice came he was in a military hospital.

His decoration was presented to him by Vice Admiral Sir James Jungius, president of Cornwall Royal British Legion.
