It was the morning after the night before for many but 14 teams still managed to start the first famous Saltash Rugby Club New Years Day Pram Race of the new century.
Road runners from the Tamar Trotters club took first place for the second successive year. Keith Childs and Steve Brooks clocked 37 minutes and 25 seconds over the three stages of the six and a half mile course - a new record clipping 10 seconds off the previous best time. They were followed by fellow Trotters Martin Critchlow and Terry Penny who finished second in 39 minutes 40 seconds.
Rugby pair Phil Masters and John Gallimore, pushing a giant, boxed in, wooden cart complete with steering, brakes and pneumatic tyres were third with a credible time of 46 minutes 55 seconds.
