Stuart Dudley's Tamarsiders continue to keep their quest for silverware – on four fronts – very much alive following this impressive victory at Erme Valley.
Said manager Stuart Dudley: 'Ivybridge is a tough place to go and
get anything, so we're delighted to have come away with three points.
'They're a strong and physical side and they continued to put us under pressure throughout the game but, luckily, we defended well and took our chances.'
Dudley's team are still
active in the chase for
the League title, plus three cup competitions – the FA Carlsberg Vase and the Throgmorton and Westinsure Cornwall Senior cups.
Erme Valley is always a daunting place to go, but an early goal is just the tonic – and it took Torpoint just three minutes for Lewis Kershaw to pull the ball back for Darren Hicks to sweep
it home from six yards.
The game then had a lengthy hold-up due to a shoulder injury to Bridgers goalkeeper Mike Roberts; after treatment he was replaced by central defender Sam Chitty.
Chitty did well in his unaccustomed role as he tipped Matthew David's header over his bar, before diving to his left to deflect Josh Grant's 15-yard volley wide of his post.
Worse was to come for the home side as they were reduced to ten men seven minutes before the break after an altercation between Torpoint full-back Warren Daw and Bridgers striker Dennis Mason.
Daw fouled Mason, who appeared to kick out at the full-back; he advanced towards the striker, who duly seemed to throw the Torpoint defender to the ground.
Mason received a straight red for his troubles, while Daw escaped with a yellow.
It took Torpoint just seven minutes of the second period to make the most of their advantage as Kershaw's run into the Ivybridge area was ended, illegally, by Lee Rundle for Adam Carter to send Chitty the run way from the resultant spot-kick.
Visiting keeper Martin Piper was eventually beaten on 63 minutes when John Wyatt's long-range drive skidded off the wet surface to fly inside his near post.
However, Torpoint restored their two-goal cushion 13 minutes from time.
Carter jinked his way past home defender Max Scragg before supplying a cool finish with a low drive past Chitty from 15 yards.
