Highways England is advising drivers to expect delays after a serious incident on the M5 between junction 26 (Wellington) and junction 25 (Taunton).

The motorway is closed in both directions following the incident at around 6.30am today.

Emergency services are at the scene.

It is likely that the carriageway will remain closed beyond the morning peak and drivers are urged to consider delaying their journeys or use alternative routes.

Northbound traffic is advised to exit the M5 at junction 26 and follow the solid black triangle diversion symbol. Take the A38 northbound and re-join the M5 at junction 25.

Southbound traffic is advised to exit the M5 at junction 25 and follow the solid black square diversion symbol. Take the A358 east through West Hatch. At Horton Cross, take the A303 southbound through Newcott and then the A30 towards Honiton. Re-join the M5 at junction 29.
