A Cornish embassy on wheels is joining the campaign for more recognition for Cornish identity.
Golden Tree’s Tick Box Bus, sponsored by First Kernow and St Austell and Skinner’s Breweries, will be launching at the first Man Engine Resurrection event at Geevor Tin Mine tomorrow (March 31).
Kitted out with a ‘Cornish Embassy’ upstairs and a beer tasting pub (called Ticky’s Tavern) downstairs, one and all are invited on board to take a Cornish citizenship test, get a Cornish passport and, if successful, graduate to the bar for a few samples of Cornish beer.
Project manager Gemma Goodman said: ‘This is intended as a friendly and open space to discuss Cornish identity and to raise awareness of Cornwall’s ‘national minority’ status and the current campaign for a Cornish tick box on the 2021 census.
‘There has been a lot in the press recently about the Cornish tick box campaign so this is a great time to provide people with a quirky, friendly and fun space in which to tell us what they think, and to help define and inform the overall campaign, and ongoing awareness about the distinctiveness of Cornwall and the Cornish.’
