Pensilva progressed into the second round of the Junior Cup after a comfortable victory over Stoke Climsland.

The game was played in difficult conditions and Stoke gave away the advantage of the wind and the slope in the first half much to Pensilva‚s delight. Right from the start the home side dominated and Stoke were pressed back for long periods. The opening goal came when Stuart Timms‚ flicked header found its way into the corner of the net. Pensilva were soon two up when they were awarded a penalty following a handball by Steve Goggins which Dave Hicks converted and Tony Rogers then made the score 3-0. Pensilva continued to press while they had the advantage but they were stunned when Stoke scored a freak goal. From a free kick on the edge of the box

Adam Wadland fired the ball high over the wall, and, it appeared, over the bar before the strong wind caused the ball to drop suddenly under the bar, leaving keeper Hicks dumbfounded.

Stoke started the second half brightly and it took an outstanding save from Dave Hicks early on to deny what looked a certain goal. After that the away side failed to use the conditions as well as Pensilva had and the only goal of the half came from Tony Rogers to make the final score 4-1.

Martin Firth was made captain for the day before he left to start a new job in London and he produced an excellent final performance, as did Paul Dunbobbin, who was named man of the match.
