As part of the Callington and District Twinning Association’s recent twinning weekend with their partnership towns of Guipavas (Brittany) and Barsbüttel (near Hamburg), Callington based choir Canticorum, which has members from across the Tamar Valley, welcomed members of the German choir Liedertafel.
This was the third time the two choirs had joined together. Liedertafel first visited Callington in 2012 with Canticorum visiting Barsbüttel in 2014.
The choirs enjoyed several events organised by Callington’s twinning association including a day trip to a very hot and sunny Tintagel and Boscastle, a civic reception and a party at Callington Town Hall.
In addition, the choirs shared a meal after a rehearsal and presented a joint concert at St Mary’s Church, Callington to a packed audience which included twinning guests from Guipavas as well as Callington and Barsbüttel.
The concert was very well received by all those present.
Most of the members of Liedertafel stayed in the homes of Canticorum members, who showed Liedertafel other delights of the area such as Kit Hill, Cotehele, Tavistock and Plymouth.
Canticorum hope to be able to return to Barsbüttel in the not too distant future.
This twinning weekend was part of one of Canticorum’s busiest ever summer programmes.
They can next be heard as part of a joint concert with the Mevagissey Ladies Choir at St Mary’s Church, Callington on Friday, July 7 at 7.30pm.
