Friends raise cash

KATIE Coles, who is a student in Year 7 at Callington Community College and her friend, Holly Cornbill, who attends Callington Primary School have been devoting a lot of their spare time to raising money to buy toys for the childrens ward at Derriford Hospital.

The girls, who are both 11 years old, have been raising the money by washing cars, gardening and walking dogs for their neighbours in Drakewells.

So far they have earned over £40, and plan to raise even more. This is as well as their fundraising for Children in Need!

Rugby Cup win

IN the second round of the Cornwall Schools U15 Rugby Cup, Callington Community College came up against Saltash School at Callington Community College.

Despite being a rather scrappy game at times, Callington came through as relatively easy winners by 27 points to 7. Callington's defence worked very hard and although being stretched wide on several occasions, their line was never crossed. A rather unnecessary penalty try was conceded mid-way through the first half. Captain David Vinc, playing at Inside Centre, bagged a couple of tries after knocking holes in the Saltash line despite some rather lateral running.

Callington Community College play Richard Lander School, Truro in the next round.

Circus skills

YEAR 7 students at Callington Community College have recently had the opportunity to experience some unusual activities, including juggling, diablo, plate spinning, club swinging and uni-cycling.

The classes have been held by Ali Oops and due to popular demand, Ali will be holding break time clubs on Wednesdays in the gym.

Girls' soccer

Sunday, November 11, Callington Community College's year 7 Girls football team took part in a football tournament at Bodmin School.

The first game was against Mullion School, who played well but but were no match for the Callington girls. The result was 4-1 to Callington with Gemma Farley scoring 2 goals and Helen Kingscott scoring 2 goals. A brilliant display of teamwork and a well deserved win.

The second game was against Bodmin School U14s. Callington won 3-0 with Gemma and Helen again bringing in the goals.

Next it was Perranporth, but again they were no match for Callington. Helen scored the first goal and Melissa Stephens the second. Result, Callington 2, Perranporth 0.

The final game was against Falmouth, who had won two games and drawn two. To win the tournament, CAllington had to win this game. Falmouth scored the opening goal, followed closely by Helen for Callington. Due to great teamwork and a solid defence, Helen was able to put through the third goal. Gemma then succeeded in getting a third goal for Callington. It was a very intense game that concluded with Callington 3, Falmouth 1, and Callington Community College winning the tournament.

Team: Gemma Farley, Helen Kingscott, Melissa Stephens, Lisa Pethick, Megan Willey, Kate Bourne and Georgina Reed.

Well done to all of the players who worked very well as a team and achieved a well deserved win.
