Summer camping

for the adventurers

SC2Y Adventurers have just returned from their first ever Summer Camp held at the Cornwall Outdoors site at Tehidy Woods Camborne.

This super site is set in 450 acres of woodland and you can be assured that the youth group members made the most of all the facilities with pond dipping,a jungle run, night treasure hunts and wide games and camp fires.

The site was ideally set for visiting the beaches of both North and South Cornwall and the Group entered the Tide Race at Portreath, building a sand castle big enough to keep their feet out of water as the tide raced in and came a very creditable third.

They visited Swanpool Beach in Falmouth to go snorkelling and Stithians reservoir where they were taught flyfishing by an expert and learned to build and paddle rafts.

They also visited Shires outdoor theme park and on occasion cooked their own lunches.

The week finished with a circus night around the camp fire where the youth members and some of their parents performed entertainments built around a circus theme.

Only started in February , the group which has Junior and Senior Sections and meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Duchy College Stoke Climsland has grown rapidly.

A recent Lottery grant of £4,850 will greatly add to their ability to provide as many young people as possible with the opportunity to explore their environment and their own resources.

The group would like to thank the Lottery for this award and all those other people who have helped with sponsorship and assistance without which we would not have been able to continue to grow.

WI mystery tour

CALLINGTON Women's Institute enjoyed an outing for their monthly meeting last week. Marion Wilson organised a mystery tour which kept a coach full of members and guests guessing almost to Lands End!

The destination proved to be the Callestock Cider Farm, Penhallow, whose motto is: 'Legless but Smiling' and after a few samples the coach load were certainly smiling.

To round the evening off, a welcome stop was made at the 'Welcome Stranger' at Lanivet for fish and chips. President Rosemarie Malley thanked Marion for an excellent evening and said she looked forward to seeing the members at the next meeting on Wednesday September 12, when speaker, Julie Ellis, will be talking on 'The Falklands Islands'.

Visitors and new members are welcome and if you would like any further information please call Rosemarie Malley on 01579 383372 or Pauline Kennedy on 01579 382729.
