RUSSELL Deacon presided at Callington Brotherhood's meeting. The guest speaker was William Stacey from Bude, who spoke on a text from the Bible on using one's talents.
The reading was given by Basil Bunkum. Soloist Andrew Williams sang hymns from Mission Praise and the organist was Barry Higgins.
At the brotherhood's In-as-much Committee meeting, members agreed to donate £750 to be shared among 17 charities. These included the three Westcountry hospices, the MacMillan Nurses, Cornwall talking newspaper for the visually handicapped and the British Heart Foundation.

AT the guild meeting held at Callington Methodist Church, Howard Tamblyn was the speaker. He gave a talk about his life growing up on a farm in the country and how young people enjoyed themselves so differently from the present day. Many events were focused around the chapel and village hall.
Barry Higgins was in the chair and the Rev Anne Curnow played for the hymns. Tea and biscuits were served by Mrs G Olvers and Mrs P Pengelly.

Detached home plan
for village
A PROPOSAL for the construction of a detached dwelling for a site in Rilla Mill was due to be discussed by Caradon council's planning control committee (west) last night (Thursday).
The plan, by Highwell Corporation Ltd, is for West Acre, Rilla Mill. Outline consent has already been granted for a single dwelling at the site. The application to be considered last night was for a second dwelling.
In their report, planning officers said: 'It is considered that the site can accommodate a second dwelling without harm to local amenities.'
Contribution to dome?
A CONTRIBUTION to the Callington sports college tennis dome is number 10 of a list of proposed uncommitted growth items identified by Caradon council's community and economic regeneration advisory panel.
The contribution, if approved, would comprise a one-off payment of £10,000 in 2001-02.
Other such items include the provision and servicing of an extra 29 dog waste bins, seagull proofing litter bins in coastal areas, constructing a disabled toilet at Draynes Bridge and giving a one-off payment of £2,000 towards the Association of Market Towns Convention to be held in Liskeard in September 2001.
Station site appeal
AN appeal has been lodged following a Caradon council refusal of an application for a site at the former Gunnislake railway station, Sandhill..
The proposal, by Axis Properties Ltd, was for a modification of a condition of planning consent - to permit a surface water drainage system for the estate road to discharge to soakaways.
The council considered the proposal unsatisfactory due to the characteristics of the site and the absence of sufficient information to demonstrate that the proposed estate road surface water scheme can provide a satisfactory long-term means to dispose of surface water.
Primrose Appeal
A TOTAL of £101 was raised for the Primrose (Breast Care Unit) Appeal through selling cakes at an art and craft fair held at Callington Town Hall. Money raised so far for the appeal is being used to build the new Breast Care Centre at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
