St. Mary's Church Harvest Festival
The Family Communion and Harvest Festival on Sunday 24th September at St. Mary's began with the singing of two harvest hymns during which the congregation were invited to take their gifts to the altar for a blessing.
These gifts, as in previous years, will be taken to Romania by the Plymouth charity Safecare Aid to Romania. The Sunday School children led the congregation in the singing of the hymn "If I were a butterfly" and in the prayers. The Revd. Barry Jennings told of the colours in light and the Covenant, in the form of a rainbow, between God and all life on earth. Following the service a Harvest Faith lunch was held in the Town Hall, Callington.

Council budget
increase of 1.2%
CALLINGTON Town Councillors have recently set their budget for the year 2001 - 2002 and have had to increase their share of Council tax to £28.34 per household.
This is an increase of 36 pence per household.
The money helps pay for the upkeep of the four recreation grounds, the cemetery, town hall and allotments. Councillors fell that the modest increase is the only way forward to help keep up the standards of maintenance that the community is used to, and to provide value for money services for all the residents.
Music magic
at Pensilva
PUPILS from Pensilva Primary School joined forces with students from Callington Community College to perform to a packed house at Pensilva's Millennium House Hall.
In the first set the college concert wind band performed two movements from 'The Folk Song Suite' by Vaughn Williams and music from the film soundtrack of 'Titanic'.
The primary school choir, on only its second outing to audiences outside the school walls, received a standing ovation for its programme, and head teacher Jean Snell made mention of the hard work that Callington sixth former Marcus Alleyne had put in as choir director.
After the break the sax ensemble entertained with a number of popular favourites and the windband took to the stage again to continue with 'Georgia of my Mind', 'Stars and Stripes Forever' and 'Alexander's Ragtime Band', before a finale of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.
