Talk on Kosovo
Pastor Martin Bunkum was the speaker at Callington Brotherhood's Sunday service recently.
He gave an account of his visit to Albania to take aid and work among the Kosovan refugees. The 2,000 mile journey was fraught with many problems, especially getting past armed police. During their stay, when they helped construct a kitchen, they lived with 200 Kosovan Muslims for 11 days and ate the same food which was very poor quality.
David Jones was the guest soloist accompanied by Barry Higgins. Russell Deacon gave a Bible reading and the chairman was Don Mutton.
Co-op for a play
After weeks of rehearsals members of the Morley Tamblyn Lodge Centre in Liskeard were given the opportunity to perform a play at Callington community college in front of an audience of Year Nine students.
The cast of 16 had been helped on a weekly basis by Sue Former who runs a drama workshop with them. The idea developed from a trip to watch 'Titanic' when it was in the cinema.
Head of drama, Jonathan Plunkett, was so pleased with the co-operative venture he is already planning close links between Morley Tamblyn Centre and the college
Loose change for charity
Year eight students at Callington college have spent the last few weeks raising money for Children in Need, taking it in turns to collect any loose change from pupils and staff.
Simon Stevens and Shane Hennessey raised over £60 in a sponsored basketball shoot-out, while Jennifer Reeves put her culinary skills to the test and baked a Pudsey Bear cake which she raffled, raising over £110. On the day itself the sixth form wore super smart clothes to college and raised over £107.
On the night of Children in Need members of the Year eight committee, accompanied by Sally Humphries head of year eight, travelled to Plymouth to present a cheque for over £600 to the charity - they even made it on to television.
Awards night
