Polperro striker Nick Bailey crashed a sensational opportunist hat-trick to comfortably beat mid-table and local rivals Pensilva, on Saturday April 1st. Although weakened by the absence of a few first team regulars, the home side were confident that they could continue their impressive recent undefeated displays against St Dennis, Lifton and Mevagissey, all of which had shown strength in character.
After 20 minutes Bailey slotted home his and Polperro's first, latching on to a tharough-ball, and capitalising on an unfortunate slip by home keeper Simon Terrell. It proved to be the half's solitary strike.
A trio of glaring misses by Tony Rogers, Colin Wilson and Colin Sunbune early in the second half signalled that it wasn't Pensilva's day. This was practically confirmed when Polperro completed the match with three goals in the last 20 minutes, Bailey twice pouncing on individual errors from Dave Hicks and Terrell respectively. Sandwiched between the visitors goals was Pensilva's only goal of the game from striker Stuart Timms, with a close range finish for his 13th goal of the season.
