When it comes to music the pupils at St Cleer Primary School have a string of successes. Ten year old Anna Brigham travelled to Taunton during half term to audition for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, an achievement in itself, and now has to wait until the end of November for the result. Five violinists are competing in the Plymouth Music Festival at the Athenaeum Theatre on November 16 in the soloist classes, and six of the young musicians are members of Liskeard Training Orchestra. During school lunch breaks Mr Joe Monks conducts a string group and all the children are encouraged by new head teacher Mrs Catheirne Stoate, herself a musician. All the string players are taught by freelance peripatetic teacher Mrs Vicky van der Vliet of St Germans.
