A 17-year-old was airlifted to hospital yesterday evening after falling around 15 - 20 feet onto rocks in Looe, Falmouth Coastguard has reported.

The young man, whose family has released some details about the incident, suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries in the fall.

In a post on its website and social media, Looe Town Council have stated: 'The family of Louie Webber have asked us to let people know that Louie fell from the rocks just below the lookout in West Looe last night. Although he sustained serious injuries, he has been very fortunate and it is hoped he will make a full recovery all be it over a long time. 'Although the details of how he actually fell are uncertain it is thought that Louis was standing the wrong side of the barrier when the cliff may have crumbled. 'We are requesting Cornwall Council assess this immediately with any necessary warning signage being erected. We also ask that people do not go to the site looking at where the accident happened as they would be putting themselves in danger. 'Louie’s’ family are incredibly grateful to the rescue services who have done such an incredible job in saving his life.'Our thoughts are with Louie and his family.'Looe’s inshore lifeboat crew and coastguard rescue teams were involved in going to the young man's aid.
